Bernoulli’s Principle

Joangelli González Compre

Daniel Bernoulli, son of the mathematician Johann Bernoulli, by whom he studied medicine at the University of Basel. After having completed their studies attempt to enter the University of Basel as a professor like his father, but was rejected. In 1724 Bernoulli's letters were published by Christian Goldbach. Travel the world and that's when Catherine I of Russia offers to teach in the Academy of St. Petersburg, the chair of Physics. After 8 years Bernoulli returned to Basel where he obtained the post of professor in the departments of botany and anatomy. For the 1734 Bernoulli had problems with his father, the year they shared the annual award from the Academy of Sciences of Paris, his father was evicted from his home and published a book entitled "Hydraulic", which try to take credit for discoveries his son, who in 1738 had made known his work called "Hydrodynamics", in which he presented what is now known as the "Bernoulli Principle", being subsequently recognized for his work in hydraulics.

Bernoulli in his book "Hydrodynamics" found that over flow tube the amount of kinetic energy, potential energy due to gravity and the pressure energy is constant, mathematically: pp '= pgh +1 / 2 p (v2 - v'2) but for a tube about altitude h, the law is as follows: v2 / 2 + p / p + gh = constant. This law states that any change in flow rate leads to a pressure variation and the same happens in reverse.

Hydrodynamic Treaty containing the propositions of Fluid Mechanics Known as Bernoulli's Theorem on the content of the work "Danielis Bernoulli hidrodinamice, sen de viribus et motibus fluidorum comentarii opus academiam ab auctore dum petropoli ageret cogestum argentorati (1738)".

In conclusion, we can say that the difference between the Bernoulli principle and his work, is that the explanation in the Bernoulli principle is more explicit, since we clearly indicates that the internal pressure of a fluid decreases as its speed increases and vice versa. Through this search I realized that this principle can be applied to everyday objects and many applications such as: water hammer, a glass of Marriott, fallopian tube fluid and Pitot. I also learned that Daniel Bernoulli was not only important in physics.
